Although the presidential election in the United States is over a year away, coverage of who is running, debates, and all the political hoopla has already begun. But one of the Republican candidates for president, Dr. Ben Carson, is a brain surgeon who has been accused of medical malpractice at least six times.
Carson is a retired brain surgeon. He worked for over 30 years but during that time there have been allegations of surgical errors. One case involved an operation to replace a brain shunt in a 9-year-old girl. The surgery was allegedly not performed correctly and left the girl partially paralyzed and disfigured. Another case involved the patient's eardrums being punctured and a sponge left inside her skull. And additional legal documents claim improperly putting in shunts, a patient who was left paralyzed after surgery and another who had unnecessary surgery for her multiple sclerosis.
When patients suffer additional injury and a worsened condition due to their doctor's negligence, it can be a scary situation. We put so much trust in our medical providers that they know what they are doing and that they have our best interests in mind. When our trust is broken and our medical provider is negligent they should be held accountable. A legal professional skilled in medical malpractice can provide legal help to a family with a loved one suffering from an injury caused by a negligent doctor. They can review medical records, consult with medical experts and determine what may have happened to cause the injury. Compensation may be available for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering and other damages.
No one in Houston expects that they will be a victim of medical malpractice, but every day across the United States medical errors occur. It is important to fight to hold these providers accountable for their negligence.
