Houston couples who are expecting a baby are filled with excitement months ahead of the birth itself. Families plan nurseries, they register for baby items and they dream about the future they will be sharing with their new arrival. Most deliveries go as expected, but occasionally a birth injury occurs that affects a family forever.
A family recently received an over $11 million dollar settlement because of the brain injury their son received during delivery. During the delivery, the baby had breathing problems that were not addressed and the baby's health deteriorated. Forceps were finally used to deliver the baby, but they were not used properly, resulting in the child receiving a serious brain injury. The child is now disabled because of the brain injury he received at birth.
No one expects their baby will be the victim of a birth injury, but unfortunately it happens to thousands of babies each year. There are many different types of birth injuries a baby can suffer from, including cerebral palsy, Erb's palsy, brain injuries, extractor injury and insufficient oxygen, among others. Families deserve answers as to what happened to cause their baby's injury. Compensation may be available for medical expenses, future medical expenses, pain and suffering and other damages.
Having a child with a birth injury can affect a family forever. Many times, these birth injuries require a child to receive specialized medical care for the rest of their lives. It is important that medical professionals are held accountable for their negligence so that they don't harm anyone else.
