Expectant Houston parents are filled with anticipation about the upcoming birth of their child. They have waited months for this birth and spent hours preparing. Most births go as expected and a happy and healthy baby goes home with the couple. But, occasionally a birth injury occurs that can bring great heartache to a family.
Three Houston women are suing their obstetrician, stating that she didn't manage their births correctly and their babies suffered a birth injury because of it. The women claim that the obstetrician failed to intervene when their baby was under distress. Two of the women were given Oxytocin to induce labor. The drug may have been given incorrectly and in one case it resulted in respiratory delays in the baby and permanent brain damage. In another case, the baby died 14 minutes after delivery. In the third case, the baby developed cerebral palsy due to oxygen problems. All three women are seeking damages for mental anguish and pain and suffering, along with funeral costs for the family who lost their baby.
When a doctor makes a major medical mistake, families often suffer from the results. Babies who have suffered a birth injury may need medical care for the rest of their lives. These families may be thrust into financial ruin because of something they never thought could happen. It is important for families to hold these medical professionals responsible for their mistakes. Compensation may be available for medical expenses, future medical expenses, pain and suffering, and other damages.
Houston patients who have suffered from a medical mistake may have legal rights to hold their medical provider accountable. Learning the truth about what happened during the birth to cause the injury is important in making sure it never happens again.
