Using an MRI to diagnose a brain injury in babies

Having a baby is one of the most exciting events of a family's life together. The birth of a new child in Houston often goes as planned, but occasionally an unexpected and negligent birth injury occurs. A birth injury, such as a brain injury can negatively affect a child for the rest of his or her life.

A study in the journal Neurology recently released information on whether a premature baby should have an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) to see if they have suffered a brain injury. The researchers performed these MRIs to see if the child had a brain injury that would affect their development. The researchers determined that damage to the frontal lobe of the brain had a greater percentage of affecting their development. In addition, a greater volume of small areas of injury, no matter where located in the brain, could also affect a baby's development.

The brain is one of the most important parts of a body. A brain injury can affect many different bodily functions and is hard to recover from. Often those that have suffered a brain injury have lifelong complications. If a parent believes their baby was the victim of a brain injury at birth they may want to speak to a legal professional. A medical malpractice attorney has the experience needed to investigate what happened to cause the injury. They can hold the medical professional accountable for their mistake. Compensation may be available for medical expenses, future medical expenses, pain and suffering and other damages.

A new baby should be a wonderful time for every family. When a birth goes wrong and the baby is harmed unexpectedly, parents have the legal right to hold the medical professional accountable.
