Neglect results in victim's injuries after medical procedure

Often individuals must undergo routine procedures and surgeries to determine if they suffer from malicious conditions. In Houston, residents may be subjected to a variety of medical tests to assess their overall health and the potential that more harmful conditions may be afflicting them without symptoms. One medical procedure that is not uncommon for older individuals to endure is colonoscopy.

The procedure requires the patient to be sedated so that their body may undergo the invasive procedure. Different patients respond differently to anesthesia and while some come out of their sedation comfortably others may feel the drugs' effects for a long period of time after the procedure has ended. A Texas woman suffered extensive injuries when she was left unattended after undergoing a colonoscopy procedure and while still feeling the impact of her procedure-related anesthesia.

After her procedure the victim was placed in a wheelchair and taken to a back door of the medical facility. She was left, unattended, for her ride to arrive and was advised to ring a bell when that ride came for her. At some point while she was left alone and still feeling the effects of the drugs given to her, the victim fell from her wheelchair and awoke on the floor, suffering from injuries to her head and shoulder.

The victim is currently suing the medical facility where the procedure occurred for a variety of incident-related damages. Those damages include but are not limited to lost wages, attorneys' fees, pain and suffering, and punitive damages. Her claims are based on the medical facility's failure to provide her with proper care after her procedure and failure to bring her out of the anesthesia in a safe manner. This case provides only one example of how medical malpractice can occur, and individuals who believe that they may be the victims of medical malpractice are encouraged to speak with personal injury attorneys about their legal rights and options.
