Potential signs of a vitamin B1 deficiency

On Behalf of | Oct 7, 2021 | Failure to Diagnose

The following is not intended to be medical advice, and you definitely want to talk to your personal healthcare provider if you believe that you have a vitamin B1 deficiency. You need to know what to expect, what treatment options are and what may be causing it. Serious symptoms may even send you to the ER for care.

However, it is important for people with the deficiency to know what signs to look for. To that end, let’s look at a few of the most common symptoms.

The onset of Ataxia

This condition can make you appear drunk. You may have trouble with balance and speech. You could feel very confused and unable to grasp what is going on. Ataxia is actually a nervous system disease that is degenerative in nature.

Irritability and mood changes

Do you notice that you feel more irritable over little things? Have your loved ones mentioned that you’ve gone through some serious mood changes that, at times, make them feel like they hardly know you? These changes can be linked to a deficiency.

Seizures and memory loss

Two of the most frightening potential symptoms are having seizures or having gaps in your memory. Either one can make you feel like you are not in control of your life. As with the above, people may think you are intoxicated or on illegal drugs, but it’s all just because of the vitamin B1 deficiency.

Do you know what options you have?

If a doctor has failed to treat your deficiency through negligence, and you’ve experienced these serious symptoms, be sure you are well aware of the legal options at your disposal.
