Jim McIngvale, widely known as Mattress Mack, is set to undergo open-heart surgery next Tuesday, following a series of health issues. The Houston-area furniture magnate, famous for his innovative promotional strategies that promise free furniture if local sports teams succeed in their championships, disclosed his medical condition in a video announcement on social media.
In the announcement, McIngvale revealed he recently battled cellulitis in his leg, a condition he was able to treat at the Texas Medical Center. However, he is now facing complications related to a leaky mitral valve, which has resulted in the surgery necessity. McIngvale highlighted his philosophy on aging, quoting a well-known Houston television personality, stating, “It’s hell getting old. I am getting a little older.”
While sharing his health concerns, McIngvale maintained his entrepreneurial spirit by encouraging his audience to support his business during this challenging time. “A lot of people are calling and asking what they can do for me. The best thing you could do for me is pray, obviously, and if you need any furniture, come out and buy furniture. That would ease a lot of my anxiety,” he stated. He expressed hope to return to work roughly ten days post-surgery.
