Children are the most important members of Houston families. Parents do everything they can to make sure their children are protected and receive the best care that is possible. When something happens to their children, such as damage to the brain, because of medical negligence families can be devastated.
A recent court decision out of Colorado has awarded a family over $17 million dollars. The family’s newborn daughter suffered from a heart defect and required surgery soon after birth. Hospital staff was supposed to be giving the newborn medication prior to the surgery but there were medication dosage errors and the girl was given the wrong dose of medication. While the girl underwent surgery she went into cardiac arrest and was unable to be revived for over 30 minutes. This accident caused severe brain injury and has resulted in the girl having cerebral palsy and other serious injuries. Her disabilities will require 24-hour care for the rest of her life. The jury’s verdict is the largest award ever given in the State of Colorado. Those who suffer from the neglect of medical providers can face serious medical and emotional consequences. Families who believe they have been harmed because of a negligent medical provider may want to speak with a legal professional who is skilled in medical malpractice. An attorney can review medical records, consult with medical experts, and determine what happened to cause the injury. Compensation may be available for pain and suffering, unexpected medical expenses, and other injuries.
Injuries that children sustain because of negligent medical providers can be devastating to families. Kids should be protected from insufferable medical neglect, and when it happens their legal rights need to be protected.
