Football players typically work hard and their bodies can get banged up with all the abuse they take during a game. Texas residents may be interested to hear that a large group of National Football League players filed a lawsuit saying the NFL teams failed to follow acceptable standards when dispensing narcotics and other drugs during games.
The lawsuit, which now includes 750 plaintiffs, is accusing the NFL and its team physicians and trainers of dispensing painkillers and other drugs to keep the players on the field longer. In some cases, prescriptions were made in the players’ names without their permission. Because of the overuse of drugs such as Percodan, Percocet, Vicodin and Ambien these players suffered long-term health concerns. The drugs were dispensed by the team physicians and trainers to mask the players’ injuries and pain. The long-term health concerns of these players include organ damage, addiction and chronic muscle pain. The lawsuit covers 40 years in NFL history.
When a medical professional fails to follow acceptable standards and instead dispenses drugs like candy, victims can suffer from a lifetime of complications and delayed treatment. A negligent physician can cause serious problems to his patient and should be held responsible for his actions. By seeking compensation for their damages, victims of medical malpractice may be able to hold medical professionals accountable.
Medical malpractice can result in a lifetime of pain and suffering. Pursuing compensation is just one way for victims to alleviate the costs they have incurred due to ongoing treatments for their medical problems.
