Elective cosmetic surgery is something that many Houston women have undergone. Recently, a news report was released warning those who have had breast implant and other cosmetic surgery done by a specific Houston plastic surgeon to have a check-up. Many medical malpractice incidents have been reported against him.
A popular plastic surgeon in the 80s and 90s in Houston performed many surgeries, including breast enhancements and tummy tucks. Many of this doctor’s patients are now coming forward with complaints about his care. One woman who had breast implants discovered that her implant had ruptured and the implant itself had no manufacturer or serial number listed on it. This meant that it probably came from another country. The rupture caused the fluid inside to leak out. The rupture can lead to discomfort, hardening of the breasts, pain, and it can make it hard to move one’s arms. According to Harris County records there were many malpractice lawsuits filed against this doctor with damages awarded ranging from $90,000 to $7.3 million. The doctor died in 2011.
When a woman decides to have a cosmetic procedure there are risks involved. Most of these surgeries go as planned and surgeons have the skills and equipment necessary to make these procedures safe. A careless surgeon can be devastating towards a patient’s outcome. If a patient believes that their surgeon was negligent they may find that speaking with a legal professional skilled in medical malpractice is helpful. These attorneys are knowledgeable in medical malpractice issues and can determine what went wrong with the surgery and if a medical professional is to blame. A patient can easily wind up in a worsened condition and require more medical care, resulting in unexpected expenses. Holding these medical professionals accountable can help patients recover damages for their unexpected condition.
Houston residents who have had a surgery with a specific Houston plastic surgeon should get a check-up with their doctor to make sure everything is ok. For those thinking about plastic surgery, make sure that the doctor is board certified, ask for references, and let the doctor know about any pain after surgery.
