After you underwent a surgical procedure or otherwise spent time in a hospital, doctors may have told you that you contracted an infection that developed into sepsis. Perhaps they failed to tell you, at least at first, just how serious this particular condition can be. You may also not have been told that the infection probably didn’t need to progress to this life threatening level if not for certain medical errors.
Regardless, you underwent additional treatment to clear the sepsis that resulted from your infection. Even so, you could spend up to 18 months fully recovering. That is, if you can fully recover at all. Like other people here in Texas who developed sepsis, you could end up with lifelong consequences as a result of this condition.
What lasting effects could you experience?
One potential side effect of sepsis is amputation. Doctors may have needed to remove one of your limbs to stop the spread of the infection or because the blood supply to the limb may have been compromised by septic pathogens. Other parts of your body could suffer lasting effects as well, including the following:

  • Damage to your lungs could leave you with pain in your chest and breathing problems. You may find yourself unable to walk for any length of time or participate in sports or other activities you enjoyed prior to the septic infection.
  • Damage to your brain could have occurred if you failed to receive adequate oxygen during your bout with sepsis. Your memory, concentration and other brain functions may suffer as a result.
  • Damage to your kidneys may require you to need dialysis or some other medical support.
  • Damage to your heart may cause chest pain or issues regulating your pulse. Any exertion could make it difficult for you to breathe.

Experiencing one or more of these issues would drastically affect how you live your life.
What can you do about it?
If you suspect that medical errors caused you to suffer from sepsis, you may be able to pursue compensation from one or more parties who may bear legal responsibility for it. Embarking on such an endeavor could cause a great deal of stress and frustration due to the complexity of medical malpractice cases.
Instead of putting further stress on your body, you could do what other Texans in similar situations have done and turn to experienced legal resources in your area for help in seeking the compensation you deserve.
