Many Houston residents will undergo surgery at some point in their lives. Most go as planned and help the patient with his or her ailment. Occasionally, however, a medical professional exhibits a failure to follow acceptable standards and there are some serious consequences.
A man is suing his doctor and medical clinic when he developed a severe infection after having his pubic hair shaven in anticipation of surgery. The man was undergoing surgery for a penile implant. In preparation, his pubic hair was shaven. When the man woke up from surgery, he saw what he believed to be ingrown hairs in his pubic region. Within a day, the man noticed the area had become very swollen. He showed the area to his doctor, who said he should put some ice on it. Three weeks later, the man had to undergo surgery to remove tissue in the affected area, which was diagnosed as having gangrene due to a staph infection. After the surgery, the patient had to spend three weeks in a nursing home recovering from the infection. The doctor is accused of not properly cleaning surgical equipment before using it, failing to properly train personnel, failing to provide a sterile environment and other similar allegations.
Houston residents who have suffered from adverse effects following surgery may feel angry. When a negligent physician causes harm to a patient, he or she may suffer from delayed treatment and unexpected medical conditions.
